Further experiments into the realm of film. Shot this on the Diana F+ and I’m loving the colors that came out in the cross processing.

It’s been a month since I posted my first experiments in the world of film and I wanted to follow up with some newer pictures. I’m starting to get the hang of my Diana F+ and I’m getting happier and happier with each new roll I get back from Photoworks.

All these shots were from a roll of Kodak 120 from the Walgreenshole, with some light post processing in various iPhone apps.

Due to a recent butt injury, I had to leave work a little early today. As I was heading home, I kept stopping to photograph the sunset, Sutro Tower, and Buddy the skateboarding dog.

Mark, the doggies owner, says he hasn’t tried to train Buddy to skate or anything. It’s just something he enjoys doing. Radical!

I love playing around with gifs! Lately I’ve been creating cinemagraphs, still images with just a tiny bit of movement, with the Kinotopic app and posting them to the Objective Scenes bloghole.

Let me tell you about my love/hate relationship with the Valencia Street Swing. I love how elegant it is, and hate that I didn’t think of it first. A few weeks ago, some folks hung this swing from a tree branch across the street from Summit Cafe and it somehow managed to survive until late this afternoon.

I always seemed to see folks enjoying the swing, and was often happy to make eye contact or share a smile with them. Sometimes people would even ask for a push. It was awesome. When walking, I’d often go a block or two out of my way just to see folks on it. As a matter of fact, I even spent my New Years morning hanging by the swing taking pictures and chatting with strangers, it was great.

I’m bummed to see it go, but wanted to share some of my favorite iPhone shots of the swing. I also wanted to remind folks that art doesn’t have to be complicated to connect with people. Thanks to the artists who put this swing up and hopefully you’ve inspired other acts of guerrilla goodness!

I bought my Diana (by Lomography) in December from Photobooth SF (where I also got this tintype portrait). I figured learning more about analog photography could be a great way to help me improve aspects of my digital photography. I shot my first four rolls of film using the “pinhole” exposure… meaning not a single shot came out. I guess it’s learning lessons the hard way is part of the experience, but after a lot of practice and experimenting I’m glad to finally have a few shots worth sharing! See the full flickr set here.

We’ll meet up near the entrance to the ice rink at Justin Herman plaza at noon and will follow the Santacon march for two hours… when we’ll probably split off and get a drink at the nearest bar.

A week after I found a sexy pair of inline skates on Valencia St, my best friend Mer found a FANTASTIC pair for herself on Mission St. What are the fucking odds?

Which of course means we HAVE to do another Un-ironic Skate Night at CELLspace this Tuesday night from 7-10pm. Door is $10, rentals are $5, mention “instaskate” and get $2 off the entrance fee. It’s 21+ and the drinks may be free again. I’m looking forward to it!

I noticed this dark line running across this morning’s blue sky… It took me a moment to figure out it was created by the contrails of a jet. The cool part was that everything lined up in such a way that the plane was flying directly into it’s own shadow. It was a fun illusion to watch as this dark line slowly turned white as the jet traveled across sky.

I did a little more research into this phenomena and found this great site about contrails and shadow effects. The type of shadow I saw was an Edge Shadow.
