My newest mobile phone photography tips video for Postagram is up now. It features one of my favorite new apps, AntiCrop, which allows users to extend their image beyond it’s original framing. This is totally last minute, but I’m in Park City, UT because… well, just read about the trip here. Anyways, I thought it would be fun to do a mobile photo walk through the heart of Sundance, so we’ll be meeting today (Saturday) at noon in front of the Egyptian Theater. Anyone is welcome to join us, but we are encouraging folks to try posting to Twitter and/or Instagram with the #instawalksundance tag as we are out walking. Fun, right? Bring your cell phone and join us for the first ever Santa-themed Instawalk this Saturday! An instawalk is a twist on the traditional photowalk, where participants share their pictures as they go. You can follow the stream of photos by following the #insantawalk tag on Instagram or Twitter. We’ll meet up near the entrance to the ice rink at Justin Herman plaza at noon and will follow the Santacon march for two hours… when we’ll probably split off and get a drink at the nearest bar.

Start with a self portrait, it doesn’t have to be yours, replace the camera with a Pop Tart and you have: SelfPopTart! This tumblrhole is full of good ones. It’s the hottest new thing.

They are sure to pop up everywhere, so I thought I’d try my hand at making one with Juxtaposer on my iPhone.

I bumped into my friend (and fellow Objective Scenes photographer) Troy yesterday while he was walking his dog, Jpeg. Of course things quickly turned into a series of street portraits… because Jpeg is such an adorably photogenic doggy

According to And7YearsAgram, today is my one year anniversary on Instagram. I’ve always liked taking photos with my iPhone, but those were mostly just used to illustrate something for a blog post. It wasn’t until I started using Instagram that I started to think more about my photos as artistic expression.

Up until Instagram, I believed that taking good photos required expensive cameras and a tons of books on how to use them properly, but when I surfed through Instagram I ran out of excuses. Other people where taking fantastic shots with the same exact device I had… so why couldn’t I?

Over the last year, I’ve worked hard at improving my skill and received a lot of great opportunities because of it. Though I don’t use the built in filters anymore, Instagram continues to be the greatest point of inspiration for my photography.

I now have this awesome job as Sincerely‘s community manager, where I get to organize mobile photography walks and share tips with other users. I helped found Objective Scenes, a group blog dedicated to sharing the best in mobile photography. I’m 312 days into my year long Daily App Experiment project. My photography has been featured in the New York Times (along with an online step by step breakdown of my process). And I’ve gotten some swell love from SF Weekly and Refinery 29. All of which wouldn’t have happened had it not been for that little Instagram app.

Last week on Objective Scenes, I posted a tutorial on a photo manipulation process I call stripemelting, which uses a simple combination of Interlacer and StripeCam.

The above stripemelt’d photo is of my friend Jeremy Brooks, who is also the creator of the Interlacer app.

Spotted this clever flier from the Yardsale guys over the weekend:

I’ve always wanted to wait in line for an iPhone… okay, that’s not true at all, but shortly after hearing about Steve Jobs’ death last week, I headed down to our nearby Apple store and actually found the experience pretty moving. The iPhone has changed so many things in my life; my art, personal communication, and even my career have all been tied into this pocket camera-puter-maphone.

I’ve never camped out in a line before, so I wanted to try it once for the experience, especially since I know my friend Reed will be joining me… but I wanted to take the experience one extra step and try to add something back to the experience. So here’s what I’m thinking; dance parties, iPhone photography, workshops, free coffee, and all night portraiture sessions. I’ll have some light gear with me, a backdrop, and some music gear. If you’d like to camp out with our small group, be at the Apple Store at 10pm tonight 10/13. Sharp!
