Hungry Cloud Darkening: From the midwest, but playing in SF this Sunday. Reminiscent of Saturday Looks Good To Me. “Our Fog” is a favorite track so far. Also best heard with headphones.

Astronautilis: I first heard of Astronautilus when watching this trailer for his upcoming documentary. Was impressed enough to purchase (and enjoy) his newest album (Amazon). For fans of Sage Francis, Murder City Devils, B. Dolan, and Will Oldham… I know that’s a pretty random ass list of bands, but there you go.

Son Lux remixed: A great compilation of Son Lux songs remixed by Baths, Alias, and others. Proceeds go towards VSA and Accessibility.

Isaiah Toothtaker: dark hip hop. This violent ass kind of rap is not normally my thing, but ever since I heard his verse from the GoingBackToCali-esque “Hyperbolic Chamber Music” track I’ve been liking him more and more. Worth noting; Isaiah’s “cover” of the memed-out internet classic “Bed Intruder” song features samples of the North Carolina A&T marching band’s cover of the internet hit. Here’s a link to the “Intruder” video, but I warn you, it’s disturbing as shit!

Squarepusher: Yeah, so this guy has a new album out today too.

I get a lot of random shit in my mailbox. Mostly Postagram pics from friends, mixed in with the occasional threat of legal action, or free yo-yo string, but last week I got this amazing envelope stuffed with art from Gaelan Kelly. The envelope contained a bunch of original art, a print out “Leiningen Versus the Ants“, and this note:

I’m so honored that Gaelan has sent me so much cool shit and I can’t figure out how to thank him. Any ideas? I’m thinking about randomly distributing his art out into the world somehow.

I found this great lenticular 3D postcard yesterday with an interesting juxtaposition of science and religion. The writing on the back reads:

The funny thing is that there really is a thing called The Astronaut’s Prayer already. It’s been rumored that Alan Shepard uttered “Dear lord, please don’t let me fuck up.” just before becoming the first American in space. I would have loved to have seen that scribbled on the back of this card in some calligraphic font.

My Lego diarama and doll protestors projects from November were probably some of my favorite projects that I did last year. There’s something incredibly satisfying about leaving these random acts of protest scattered throughout everyday situations, rather than concentrated in one specific area. It’s unlikely these guys saw my newsbin projects, but I still feel a kindred spirit between our projects. Budem zdorovy!

Just noticed that Eric San, aka Kid Koala, has just posted a ton of obscure tracks on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. I’m not positive, but I’m guessing his “MusicLibrary” cuts are intended to serve as bumpers for Adult Swim shows:

His Get Up and Get Down Vol 1 (Cardio Cuts) is a live mixtape recording. The audio isn’t that great, but the mix is pretty solid. I’m particularly happy to hear him sampling Push Button Objects, a rare early cut from Eyedea and Abilities. The beat comes in at 1:56. BTW, if anyone happens to have a decent digital recording of this “Push Button Objects” or the instrumental, please get in touch!

Just heard a few songs by Micachu and her band The Shapes. It’s some fun experimental pop music. Reminds of a mix of math rock and Anticon beat-making, with a laid back Olympia delivery.

The name was familiar at first, but not as a visual artist… It turns out that Brock was the singer/songwriter for the Minneapolis group Work Of Saws. I’m a huge WOS fan, but never knew about Brock’s visual art skills. Check out some of his work:

Not really a fan of most videosongs, a genre seemingly built around novelty covers, but I really got a kick out of this “Gameboy Music” video that my friend Brett sent me. It’s well done and actually sounds like something I would listen to… of course I have rather odd musical tastes though

Spoiler alert: I really can’t believe he never actually turned on the device to capture some sounds… I wonder if it even works?

I don’t know much about Peter Gabriel. I guess I always knew he had kind of neat videos, but holy-shit-this-video-is-awesome! “Digging In The Dirt” is a creative video… and an awesome song! I really need to check out more of Gabriele’s stuff. Any suggestions?
