BSP yo-yo bags for Anti-Yo
Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Yesterday I made my mock up holster for the BSP, a new yo-yo by Anti-yo. The denim is raw selvage denim. Now I have to make 74 more.

Plug-in to y’r muse
Friday, January 25th, 2008

The folks at Broken Yo-yos sent me one of their newest products, the Plug-in III.

The Plug-in III is smooth as hell on the string, and probably the shiniest yo-yo I’ve ever seen. But what I really like about it is how inspired I feel every time I pick it up. I’ve been trying out a [...]

Leaving Pleasantville
Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Lately, I’ve been trying to experiment with coloring my illustrations using photoshop. Ever since my earliest photoshop coloring attempts, I’ve tried to use actual scans or photos of the objects I’m attempting to color (ie, instead of coloring a pair of blue jeans blue, I actually scan denim and place it in the image). [...]

Kudos, Blockbuster, just when I thought I couldn’t think less of your franchise, I  see an entire shelf stocked full of Aliens VS Hunter at your Mission store.

Which is of course a knock off of:
Some readers may recall that the same store also had a floor to ceiling display with at least 50 copies of [...]

Win Or Lose, You Lose.

Here is a found California Canadian lottery ticket called Moustache Match. Apparently the goal is to get 3 similar mustaches in a row. As a kid, my pa used to tell me that the lottery was a “stupid people tax”. If that’s true, I imagine Moustache Match is very popular among lottery players.

Here is a quick sketch I made to warm up before drawing The Three Jungle Friends story at 826 last week. I like to loosen up before the kids get there, because once they start writing their book I have to move fast.
This shot also gives you a sense of scale of the art that [...]

The Three Jungle Friends Learn to Swim
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

A few days ago, I did some volunteer work for 826 Valencia. A class of 20 third grade students came and, with the help of some 826 staff, created a story called The Three Jungle Friends Learn To Swim. I called my friend Mike and he came along to create some artwork for the book. [...]

“the line”
Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Although shipping my Etsy sales has kept me busy, I really have no excuse for not being more productive with my craftmaking. Luckily I tend to do my work in large batches, so I still have plenty of merch for my site despite not working on any wallets since late November.
I try to work on [...]

Bobby Fischer, the legendary chess grand master, passed away yesterday.
Fischer’s place in chess history may remain highly debated, but he will always be my favorite player. His games were always entertaining and often unpredictable. As a teenager, I used collect books of his games and “play through” them on my own board, trying to figure [...]

TheSixtyOne, Scrabbel Video, and vote in the CDD
Saturday, January 12th, 2008

I have a new hobsession (obsession/hobby), it’s watching the Crate Digger Death-match votes as they come in. I tend to keep a tab open and check the current CDD poll status as I’m waiting for another page to load. It’s been exciting, Bomarr had an early lead, but D-Form has had a slow, but steady [...]
